The epic fifth series of fantasy drama Merlin continues on BBC One this weekend and, when a stranger gives Arthur the power to summon the dead, the king finds himself torn between head and heart.

Unable to resist temptation, he seizes the chance to speak to the person he misses most – his father, Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head).

‘The Death Song of Uther Pendragon’ airs at 8.25pm on Saturday 20th October on BBC One. To whet your appetite, here are ten teasing lines of dialogue from the episode…

» ‘These are the qualities of a true King.’

» ‘My time has come.’

» ‘You’re fortunate that I’m not easily frightened.’

» ‘Why does it always take you twice as long to change out of your armour?’

» ‘I thought it was a cause for celebration?’

» ‘Sorry, did I forget to tell you about that part?’

» ‘Some people still think you’re a foolish, arrogant ass.’

» ‘There are some things that are more important than love.’

» ‘Did you get a terrible fright?’

» ‘You’re threatening me with a spoon?’
