David Tennant joins cast of US ‘Broadchurch’ remake

Doctor Who star David Tennant has been cast in the upcoming US version of Broadchurch.

The Scottish actor will play “a character similar to his role in the original”, reports TV Guide, but this time will use an American accent.

Fox’s remake was announced in August and is expected to be air during the 2014-2015 season.

The US series is due to begin filming in January and is part of Fox’s “event series” initiative, which also includes 24: Live Another Day and Wayward Pines.

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall is executive producing the remake and is also writing the first episode.

Series 1 aired in the UK earlier this year and ITV confirmed in April that Series 2 will begin filming in 2014. It is unknown if Tennant will return to the UK series.
