The actor joins the cast in Season 4 as Tycho Nestoris.

Gatiss told today’s Metro: “Apparently, my character in the books actually comes in a lot later so it was a bit unusual that they brought it forward. I’m in one episode. I went over to Belfast and did the scene there.”

However, he hopes to return to the show to film more episodes in the future: “I’m expecting an almost inevitably violent death.”

Discussing the possibility of filming a love scene in the show, the Doctor Who writer joked: “It’s filled with the fittest men on television, so I wouldn’t be averse to it. It’s very unlikely with my character, though. He’s a bit like John Major.”

Season 4 begins in the UK on Monday 7 April at 9pm on Sky Atlantic, airing less than 24 hours after HBO’s US premiere.
