'Inspector George Gently' to return for Series 5

1960s police drama Inspector George Gently will return to BBC One later this with four new feature-length films, starring Martin Shaw as the titular detective.

Writer Peter Flannery commented: "Gently and Bacchus return to my home turf of Durham and Northumberland with plenty more murders and cases to solve. It's 1968 and there are huge changes taking place in society, and hopefully our series continues to give a real portrait of the age."

Set in Northumberland in 1968, the new episodes will also see Lee Ingleby back as mouthy sidekick Bacchus, with guest stars including Lenora Crichlow (Being Human), Gary Carr (Death In Paradise), Roger Lloyd Pack (Only Fools and Horses) and Geraldine Somerville (Cracker).

Series 5 is currently filming on location in Durham and the North East and will air on BBC One later this year.
