Overall, The Sweeney didn’t need to be made, but it’s perfect popcorn fodder as a cop film in its own right.

Legendary Detective Inspector Jack Regan (Ray Winstone) and his loyal partner George Carter (Ben Drew) are old school crime fighters enforcing the law in a modern underworld.

Tearing up the streets of London, The Sweeney is a stylish, exhilarating action thriller directed by Nick Love (The Firm), co-written by BAFTA winning John Hodge (Trainspotting) and boasting a terrific British cast including Hayley Atwell (Captain America) and Steven Mackintosh (Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans).

1975 was the year that the most groundbreaking British police drama ever made was broadcast on ITV. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was at Number One in the UK charts. Inflation was at 24.2%. The UK implemented the Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay Act. We decided to stay in the EC. The average house price was £11,974. Curly perms, lounge-suits and pungent after-shave/splash on lotion were de rigueur… Luckily we had The Sweeney, who hadn’t had any dinner, to keep us company amidst the financial and political turmoil. And now you can relive it in HD!
