BBC One’s hit autism drama The A Word will begin in the US next month.

Starring Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Lee Ingleby (Our Zoo), Morven Christie (Grantchester), Greg McHugh (Fresh Meat) and Vinette Robinson (Sherlock), the six-part first season launched in the UK in March.

Adapted by Occupation writer Peter Bowker from the Israeli series by Prisoners of War creator Keren Margalit, the show is a funny and thought-provoking look at parenthood and childhood and what it’s like to have a child who doesn’t fit the mould.

The A Word will premiere on SundanceTV at 10/9c on Wednesday 13 July.

It was recently confirmed that the drama series will return for a second season next year.

Writer Peter Bowker commented: “If the first series was about diagnosis and denial then the second series is about the journey that is undertaken when you ‘go public’ about the fact that your child is different.”
