Peter Kay’s ‘Car Share’ has broken even more BBC iPlayer records

The new season of Car Share amassed over two and a half million requests in its first three days on BBC iPlayer.

All four episodes of the second run of Peter Kay’s comedy premiered on iPlayer earlier this month and occupied the top four slots of requested programmes – the first time this has ever happened.

The first episode also pulled in 6.5 million when it aired on BBC One, with an additional 1.5 million watching on repeat.

Car Share Season 2 picks up on the blossoming relationship between assistant manager John Redmond (Peter Kay) and promotions assistant Kayleigh Kitson (Sian Gibson).

Peter Kay commented: “All we wanted to do is make happy television and it seems viewers are enjoying the happiness that Car Share is offering.”

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning added: “We’re knocked for six with the huge audiences and love for the new series. Audiences are coming at it from all angles and to make comedy history on BBC iPlayer marks a big moment for how we release our shows. I couldn’t be more chuffed for Peter and Sian who have poured so much of themselves in to this special series.”

The second episode of Season 2 airs at 9pm on BBC One tomorrow night.
