Karen Gillan has revealed that Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper, is her favourite Doctor Who companion.

Billie Piper appeared as Rose Tyler in over 30 episodes of the show between 2005 and 2010, alongside the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant).

Gillan told Newsarama at Comic-Con in San Diego last weekend: “I don’t know about classic series companions really, because it wasn’t on when I was a young girl. I’d never actually watched it.”

She continued: “With the new series that started in 2005, I think I have to say my favourite companion is Rose Tyler. I love Rose and I thought Billie Piper did such a good job and I just really related to her as a young girl.”
