The BBC has reveled details of Doctor Who Extra, a brand-new series available exclusively on BBC iPlayer.

Doctor Who Extra will follow Peter Capaldi “every step of the way throughout the creation of his first season as the Doctor”.

The 12 programmes will trace “the highs and lows of Doctor Who’s most ambitious run of episodes yet”, featuring access to stars including Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Samuel Anderson (new character Danny Pink), plus guests Frank Skinner, Keeley Hawes, Michelle Gomez, Ben Miller, Foxes and more.

Each 10-minute Doctor Who Extra episode will be available after that week’s Doctor Who episode airs on BBC One. Audiences will also be able to access Doctor Who Extra via the BBC’s Red Button.

BBC Three’s Doctor Who Confidential ran from March 2005 until it was axed at the end of Series 6 in October 2011.

Series 8 begins on BBC One this weekend with ‘Deep Breath’.
