Arthur Darvill has been cast in the CW’s upcoming spin-off from Arrow and The Flash.

The Broadchurch actor, who played Doctor Who companion Rory Williams from 2010 to 2012, will play Rip Hunter, “a roguish time traveler”.

He follows Doctor Who stars John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) and Alex Kingston (River Song) into DC’s TV universe. Barrowman plays Malcolm Merlyn in Arrow, while Kingston plays Laurel and Sara’s mother, Dinah Drake Lance.

Created by Arrow‘s Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim, the new superhero team-up series is expected to begin in early 2016.

Deadline reports that Darvill joins Ciara Renée as Hawkgirl, Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom in Arrow), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold in The Flash), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave in The Flash), Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein and Arrow actress Caity Lotz in an unconfirmed role.

The new season of Doctor Who is currently filming in Cardiff and will air on BBC One this autumn.
