‘Call the Midwife’ to return for Series 3 in 2014

The BBC has announced the commission of a Christmas special and a third series for Call The Midwife.

Written by Heidi Thomas, the period drama will return to BBC One this Christmas for a one-off episode and in 2014 for eight new 60-minute episodes.

The second series of Call The Midwife is currently airing at 8pm on Sunday nights and is averaging a consolidated series average so far of 10.6 million/32.3%.

The official synopsis for Series 3 reads: “It’s 1959 and the eve of the swinging Sixties. The winds of change are sweeping through the country and the residents of Nonnatus House face some momentous changes of their own.”
