Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless) and Olivia Colman (Peep Show) have begun filming the second series of BBC One’s Accused in and around Manchester.

Other cast members for Series 2 include Robert Sheehan (Misfits), Joe Dempsie (The Fades), John Bishop (Skins), Sheridan Smith (Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually), Josh Bolt (The Be All And End All) and Oliver Lee (Waterloo Road).

Created by Jimmy McGovern (Cracker, The Street), the legal drama focuses on a different crime and punishment story each week and was recommissioned for a second series of four episodes earlier this year.

Series 1 aired last year, starring Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Marc Warren (Hustle) and Naomie Harris (28 Days Later).

Written by Carol Cullington (Emmerdale) and Jimmy McGovern, Series 2 Episode 1 will feature Anne-Marie Duff and Olivia Colman as mothers trying to do right by their sons, Jake (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Sean (Oliver Lee), and their community in a battle against guns and crime. Joe Dempsie will play a gang leader, Riley.

Series 2 Episode 2, written by Danny Brocklehurst (Exile) and Jimmy McGovern, will star Robert Sheehan as Stephen, a teenager who is convinced that the palliative care nurse (Sheridan Smith) who is assigned to look after his mother has a very different agenda. His father, Peter, will be played by comedian John Bishop.

The second two episodes of Series 2 will complete filming in February 2012.
