ITV has commissioned Breathless, a new period medical drama about a group of gynaecologists in the early 1960s.

Co-created by Paul Unwin (Casualty), the six-part series will focus on gynaecologists working in both the NHS and private practice in 1961, just before the pill and abortion was legalised.
