Filming on the third series of Sherlock will begin in "early 2013", executive producer Beryl Vertue has revealed.

Speaking today at the Nations & Regions Media Conference in Salford, Vertue confirmed the news to Ariel, adding that it was too early to announce a transmission date for Series 3.

Earlier this month, writer Steven Moffat stated that the show's creative team "need to find new villains, we need to find new ideas, otherwise the show doesn’t keep growing".
