Will Merrick (‘Skins’) interview

Posted Filed under

Skins returns to E4 for a fifth series in January, following a brand new set of Bristol teenagers, including Will Merrick as Aloysius ‘Alo’ Creevey.

Alo is a farm boy. He loves weed, wanking and his dog Rags. An affable piss-taker with a big heart, Alo is an enthusiast. All the drugs, girls and good times the city can provide are ripe for the taking, and he’s going to do his best to partake in all of them until he’s full. The drugs and good times are pretty easy to come by. The girls…not so much. But he’s prepared to die trying.

Tell us about your character?

“Aloysius ‘Alo’ Creevey is a farmer boy. He’s not living in the city like everyone else, he is living on a big farm just outside Bristol. He’s quite a simple minded character who has very basic interests; desperate to start his sexual endeavours, get going with girls and find more friends. He’s really interested in getting into the swing of teenage life and embracing it. He’s always pushing just to have a great time and is a very positive sort of guy. No task is too hard, and anything is possible with Alo.”

What do you enjoy about playing Alo?

“I love his sense of humour, I think most of what Alo says and the humour of Alo just comes out of the way he is. He’s not really trying to be funny. He’s great fun to play, he’s got a lot of interaction with a lot of other characters, and he’s just a really upbeat kind of guy and so is a very happy part to play.”

What characteristics does your character bring to the group?

“Alo brings everything really down to earth because things can get quite heated and quite intense within the group and there are lots of fights, arguments, and feuds between the characters and I think Alo really brings everyone together because he is very neutral. Nothing is ever that bad to Alo, so he puts a smile on people’s faces.”

What has been your most embarrassing moment on set?

“I proposed to Laya Lewis and she turned me down. Quite cruelly actually. That was probably my most embarrassing moment.”

If you could play someone else in the cast who would it be and why?

“Nick. At first he’s the perfect golden boy and he has everything going for him. Nick has a massive fall, which I think would have been great to do. I’d also love to play Matty because he is so mysterious and no one really knows what is going on with him. I’d quite like to play Mini as well, just be a bit of a bitch. Alo is so nice and doesn’t ever upset anyone.”

Tell us something about you…

“I play the guitar but I’m a bit of a dosser really. I like the Hitchcock films; Psycho, The Birds. I am a massive fan of Ralph Fiennes. The English Patient is one of my favourite films of all times. Reservoir Dogs too, Tarantino is a bit of a legend.

“Music – I love The Walkmen, The Stokes, Radiohead, Bombay Bicycle Club, The National, The XX, The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s are one of my favourite bands, they are awesome!”

Skins returns at 10pm on Thursday 27th January 2011 on E4.
