When it comes to the Star Wars franchise you probably have a mate who claims to be a ‘true fan’.

You’ll be used to the knowing eye-roll when you pronounce a character’s name wrong or the fuming glance when you state that you didn’t really mind Jar Jar Binks that much. Or maybe this is you?

It’s time to test this mate (or yourself) with some Star Wars secrets that only a ‘true fan’ will know!

Peter Cushing, the actor who played Grand Moff Tarkin, wore slippers on set during his scenes because he found his costume boots so uncomfortable.

Bossk the bounty hunter’s costume was recycled from Doctor Who.

You know those cute fluffy bear creatures that feature in Return of the Jedi? They’re called Ewoks, right? But how did we ever come to know that? They’re never called that in the movie.

The fearsome Emperor Palatine was originally played by an elderly female stand in instead of Ian McDiarmid.

Who’d have thought the rugged Liam Neeson, playing the part of Qui-Gon Jinn, would pick up a ladies’ razor and use it to communicate with Obi-Wan Kenobi? Well, the prop creators got creative with a Gilette Sensor razor, painted it silver and handed it to the actor to talk into in The Phantom Menace.

ET’s alien species (Grebleips if you want to be specific) are a part of the Galactic Alliance and can be seen in the background at Queen Amidala’s Galactic Senate meeting.

The Star Wars franchise has earned more from its toy sales than its box office sales. The figure currently stands at $12,000,000,000 for toys and $4,277,000,000, while its other merchandise (clothing and accessories) comes in at a modest $1,304,000,000, if you’re looking for examples of ‘other’ merchandise then check them out here.

Yoda’s first name is Minch. Apparently they decided to leave this out in the films though to keep an air of mystery around the character. As if his tiny green body and strange way of talking wasn’t mysterious enough.

You do see Boba Fett’s face without a helmet in the film. However, it’s seen when he plays another character, Imperial Lieutenant Sheckil, who catches Princess Leia when she tries to escape from Bespin. Jeremy Bulloch, who played Fett, was standing in for the actor originally intended to play the Lieutenant, after he couldn’t attend shooting at the last minute.

Han Solo was originally meant to be an alien with green skin and gills. That would have mixed his and Leia’s relationship up a bit…

How many of these facts did you know? If you scored ten out of ten, then the force truly is with you…
