5 of the best bromance moments in ‘Merlin’

Whilst ‘bromance’ is a rather new term, it isn’t really a new concept.

Perhaps in Arthurian times when there were knights and handsome princes going on quest after quest together, bromance was at an all-time high. Or maybe that’s just what BBC One’s Merlin has led us to believe…

Merlin and Arthur, man servant and Prince/King, sorcerer and knight, and – most definitely – best friends, presented us with many ‘bromance’ moments over the show’s five seasons. Whether it was because they got the most screen time or because their destinies were entwined, their relationship was certainly the one that is remembered most fondly.

 

Merlin

We begin our Top 5 with ‘The Coming of Arthur: Part 2’ when we see Merlin and Arthur take on yet another quest; the one that shapes Arthur into the king he goes on to be. With a nod to the round table of the legends and Arthur’s grand speech of being equals in the face of evil, we are set up with a classic episode.

So when they save the day and Camelot is theirs again, we are treated with a light hearted classic ‘Merthur’ moment. The good old banter and nudging of the elbows is a simple but perfect representation of their relationship.

 

Merlin

We find our fourth moment in ‘The Moment of Truth’. A mere ten episodes into the series, the bond between Merlin and Arthur is already established.

When Merlin tells Arthur he is returning home with his mother, they have one of their first heart to hearts. Amongst all the banter and the teasing and joking, these heartfelt, genuine moments are a rarity that warm the cockles of your heart.

 

Merlin

Ranking in third place is the moment in ‘The Darkest Hour: Part 1’ when Merlin sacrifices himself for Arthur in the face of the Dorocha.

Before Merlin takes the leap to save his Prince, we are presented with a mixture of their classic banter, served with a large helping of emotion. Scared for their lives, they joke about being friends but deep down and without words, they tell each other just how much they mean to one another.
